Community Healthy Living Groups

In this section you will find up to date information regarding the Healthy Living Groups that are run by or from Quantock Medical Centre and the PPG.

Community Gardening Group

Following a meeting in The Rose and Crown in January, the team have decided to build raised beds in to the plot to help with access for potential gardeners that may not be able to bed down to ground level.  We have had a generous offer of funding from the Parish Council towards the compost for the beds and we have had the wood donated by Delia at the surgery.  The plot has been measured and plans drawn up for two raised beds.  We are still quite a small group with only 8 members and it would be great if we could encourage some more members of community to get involved.  This is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise and meet some wonderful and like-minded people.  The team currently consists of:

Tom & Deborah Foy

Sally & John Friend

Maggie Harlow

Jill Goodwin

Kate & Rob Lyness

Any of us are happy to talk to you about the project or you can get in touch via Kate or Helen at the surgery.

Singing Group

The singing group is a great chance to get together on a Wednesday morning at 10am at the Stable Loft, Nether Stowey Church Centre.  The group are very friendly and welcoming and have a vast array of different songs that they sing a long with lots of different breathing exercises to improve lung health and performance.  Everyone is welcome and transport can be organised for you if you have any difficulty getting there.  We do ask for a small donation to go towards the room hire.  For more information contact Helen Stacey at the Medical Centre.

Art and Craft Group

The Art and Craft Group is held on the 1st Tuesday of every month between 2-4pm at the Church Centre, Nether Stowey.  Everyone welcome and again transport can be arranged, just contact Kate or Helen at the Medical Centre.  There are some painting supplies available to use and a small donation is required to pay for the room hire and keep the supplies topped up (£4), but you are welcome to bring a long any projects you are currently working on, be they painting or another craft project.  While this is not a lesson, there are some very talented artists participating who I am sure can pass on some useful tips should you require them.  For more information contact the Medical Centre or Diane Faris from the PPG who runs the group.

Walking for Health

Our Walking for Health Group meets every Tuesday at 11am.  Some walks start at the Medical Centre and some from further a field throughout the Quantock AONB (those walks start a little earlier, meeting at the Medical Centre at 10.30 and sharing a lift to the location).  Lifts can be organised and these can be arranged through either the Medical Centre or Elizabeth Woolcock who runs the walks.  Please see the attached document for information on timings and locations of the walks from January to March 2019.
