August News Letter

News From The Quantock Medical Centre

CONGRATULATIONS were in order to the Practice in August, we came 3rd  best practice in Somerset (out of 70 plus practices) in the National GP Patient Survey, and we were in the top 150 practices across the country (7000 plus practices).

We would like to thank all those patients who completed the National GP Patient Survey  which covers everything from the trust patients have in their doctor, to the attitude of reception staff and how easy it is to get an appointment.  This was a great recognition of the fact that we all really do care about our patients and our community and want to provide the best service we can to you.

We would also like to make patients aware that Pharmacy2U have been sending letters enticing people to receive their repeat medications from them rather than their local GP Practice Dispensary.   Pharmacy 2U are a private company who send out medication via Royal Mail, they do not collect and deliver from your Surgery. They are NOT part of the NHS. Certain medicines cannot be sent via Royal Mail so your prescription will be incomplete. Once you start using Pharmacy2U you will not be able to pick up any medication from the dispensary when you do visit the doctor or nurse for an appointment. If you are struggling to collect your mediations due to frailty or ill health please do talk to your neighbours  and family or have a word with the dispensing team as there are a number of volunteers who will be able to help with delivery of medication when needed.  Please Continue to Support your Surgery by using the Dispensary.

We would also like to update you on some of the activities we have at the Surgery for anyone who would like to get involved, get more active and of course meet new friends and have some fun:

  • The Walking group each Tuesday from 11am starting at the Surgery unless otherwise stated (free)
  • The Art Group every 1st Tuesday at 1pm at the Church Centre (small donation for room hire and materials)
  • The Singing Group every Wednesday 10 am at the Stable loft Church Centre (£1 donation for room hire)
  • The Gardening Group. Up and running, amazing veg produced this summer. If you would like to get involved please come in and ask for contact details.

Reminder for all patients who turn 70 years of age you will receive the free gift of a shingles vaccine from the Surgery! Don’t all rush we have plenty of stock!

And of course coming into the Autumn we have the FLU CLINICS. Slightly more complicated this year by the fact that there are 2 completely new vaccinations in the UK; a Trivalent for those patients aged 65 years and over and a Quadra valent for those under 65 years  with a chronic medical condition (Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Liver, Kidney disease, Immuno suppressed).  Our Clinics will on Saturday mornings 9 – 1pm on 29th September, 13th October, 10th November. We have had to space the clinics out as nationally the deliveries of these vaccinations will be drip fed to the practices over 3 months. Please do use the Practice for your vaccination rather than a Pharmacy to support us locally. We look forward to seeing you at our annual event!
